Industrial Heat Recovery Ventilators

What is a HRV?

Heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) are designed to improve indoor air quality and energy efficiency by exchanging stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air while retaining heat. The primary purpose of an HRV is to transfer heat from the outgoing stale air to the incoming fresh air during cold weather, or vice versa during hot weather, reducing the energy required to heat or cool the building. This process helps maintain a comfortable indoor environment while minimizing energy loss, making HRVs especially useful in climates with significant temperature differences between inside and outside.

How it works

HRVs continuously exchange stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air, while capturing and reusing the heat from the outgoing air. As fresh air enters, it passes through a heat exchange core where it absorbs heat from the stale air being expelled. This process ensures that the incoming air is pre-warmed in cold weather (or pre-cooled in hot weather), reducing the energy needed for heating or cooling. The result is a well-ventilated, energy-efficient environment that maintains comfortable temperatures with minimal energy loss.

Design features

Better Air Commercial Series HRV models come with:

  • Ziehl ECM reverse curved fans. These fans are excellent for pressured applications that require ductwork. Airflow data at pressures up to 4” are available for the BA-HRV models.
  • Cores are removable for cleaning, but we suggest using a filter system in dirty environments to keep the fans clean as well.
  • Built in mounting brackets on HRV make HRV suspension a breeze.
  • Wall mounting kit is available for all BA-HRV sizes.
  • Real time temperature monitoring for defrost initiation. No dampers on defrost cycle. This reduces the amount of moving parts that need maintaining.

Monitor and control

LCD touchscreen remote HMI control, multiple control modes

  • Timer mode (set time and speed and unit will run for the duration)
  • Humidity mode - Enter desired humidity setpoints, unit will automatically adjust fan speed/turn fans on or off as needed to stay within setpoint. Can also be set to shut unit off if room temperature cools off.
  • Constant mode - Enter speed and unit will run continuously at set speed.
  • CO detector input - If CO sensors are needed in building.
    • Can be wired into HRV to turn fans on when CO sensors call for it.
  • Multiple outputs to enable aux. air dampers or purge fans if HRV is not the only ventilation system in a room. This eliminates need for a second control system to control the fans and air intake dampers.
  • Timer boost - Timed operation of a set speed, unit will revert back to previously selected mode when the time boost expires.
  • Customizable control options available. We can make changes to your control as needed at the time of sale in order to adapt to custom applications.
  • Digital fan airflow balancing option.
  • Password protect function to prevent tampering.
